Your Three Day Yosemite Itinerary

Day 1: Yosemite’s Classics — Waterfalls, Granite Walls, Valley Views

Morning

Start early. The South Entrance sits 12 miles from the ranch, a short drive along winding mountain roads. Check the National Park Service website for the current year’s reservation requirements and entrance fees before you go.

Your first stop is Tunnel View. Even after all these years, that sight — El Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right, Half Dome in the distance — still has a way of grounding a person.

From there, head into Yosemite Valley and walk the short 0.7‑mile trail to Bridalveil Fall and feel the mist off the 620‑foot drop. It’s a good way to start the day.

Afternoon

Pick up lunch or pack your own, then settle into Cook’s Meadow. Yosemite Falls stands tall in front of you, and the meadow gives you room to take it in.

Then, stretch your legs on the Lower Yosemite Falls loop — flat, easy, and worth every step.

Afterward, drive to El Capitan Meadow. If you look closely, you’ll spot climbers inching their way up the granite face. It never gets old.

Evening

Head back toward Oakhurst and have dinner at El Cid — casual cantina, good cocktails, outdoor seating.

Back at the ranch, the fire pit is the place to end the night. Roast a marshmallow or two, watch the sparks drift up into the pines, and let the day settle.

Day 2: The High Country

Morning

Grab a muffin and coffee at the ranch from 7–9am before heading up to Tioga Road (Highway 120), which opens after the snow melts and roads are cleared. Confirm road status. Make sure to pack necessities for the day, as the amenities are none.

Stop at Olmsted Point, about a two hours drive from the front desk, for a different angle on Half Dome — humbler but no less striking.

Afternoon

Tenaya Lake makes a fine picnic spot, its alpine water bright and cold. If time allows, wander through Tuolumne Meadows, where granite domes rise out of wide, peaceful grasslands.

Evening

Dinner at Oakhurst Grill & Whiskey 41 Lounge with traditional American steakhouse fare. Back at the ranch, the Lewis Creek Relaxation Area is 200 yards down the road from the lobby with Adirondack chairs at the water.

Day 3: Giant Sequoias & Local Quiet Corners

Morning

Breakfast at the ranch runs 7–9am — coffee, fruit, muffins. Enough to get you up the mountain.

Start your day at Mariposa Grove, home to the giant sequoias — trees that were already old when the ranch was young. Take the shuttle to the trailhead and walk the Grizzly Giant Loop (2 miles). Standing beneath those trees has a way of putting things in perspective.

After, take a drive up Glacier Point Road. The opening date for the road changes from year to year so be sure to confirm road status before you go. The view from the top — 3,214 feet above the valley floor — is one you’ll remember long after you’ve gone.

If you’re up for a hike, the Sentinel Dome and Taft Point loop (5.1 miles) gives you cliffside views without needing to be a mountaineer.

Afternoon

Make your way to Bass Lake, four miles from here. Have lunch at Ducey’s on the Lake, might even catch some live music too. Afterward, take the short 0.6‑mile out‑and‑back hike to Glass Rock from Beasore Road. The overlook gives you a wide view of the lake and the mountains that cradle it.

Evening

Come back to Sierra Sky Ranch for one last evening. Purchase a bottle of wine from the front desk, sit on the veranda and you may be able to spot deer on the lawn.

After 150 years, the night sky still looks the way it used to.
